As a child Carissa wanted to be a lot of things when she grew up – a professional basketball player, a Broadway actress, a psychotherapist – but she never thought about being a writer.
She read obsessively as a kid, until middle school when teachers told her which books she had to read which took all the fun away. From that time onward she wrote in journal after journal as if her life depended upon it (because it pretty much did. Writing was how she made sense of herself and the world around her.
It wasn’t until her late twenties when Carissa realized more than anything she wanted to be children’s writer to pass on the gift so many authors had given her: escape, connection, and hope.
Born and raised in Texas, Carissa now calls Lancaster, Pennsylvania home, with her husband, two kids, and malti-poo.
